LIVE PRELIMINARY ROUND

• No pre-audition enlistment qualification *
• Travel/lodging/meals at own expense
• Application deadline: January 5, 2025
• Live preliminary round: January 28, 2025

The live final rounds will be held on January 29, 2025 at Fort Meade, MD.

THE UNITED STATES ARMY FIELD BAND

is the Department of the Army’s premier touring musical representative. Its mission is to develop positive connections on behalf of the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense, and the United States through live music and multimedia performances, media, television productions, and emergent technologies. The Field Band has appeared in all fifty states and in more than thirty countries on four continents. The organization’s five performing components, the Concert Band, Soldiers’ Chorus, Jazz Ambassadors, Commercial Music Group, and Six String Soldiers, each tour extensively. Tours include formal public concerts, school assemblies, educational outreach programs, festivals, and radio and television appearances.

SALARY & BENEFITS

  • $72,000-80,000 starting salary

  • 30 days paid vacation annually

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Perform in the Concert Band of the United States Army Field Band

  • Tour approximately 100 days per year in the U.S. and abroad

  • Perform in various small chamber ensembles

  • Contribute to innovative performances for broadcast audiences, live events, and educational outreach

  • Learn and refine new skills as desired in multimedia production, marketing, music education, and more

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional performance level

  • Proficiency in various musical styles and sight-reading

  • Bachelor of Music degree or higher preferred

  • Ability to meet Army height/weight standards

  • Civilian applicants must be 17-34 years of age or up to 42 with a waiver

  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder)

HOW TO APPLY:

  1. Download and prepare Preliminary Round Excerpts

  2. Create UNEDITED digital recordings of the complete excerpts as published in the excerpt packet. Each excerpt should be an individual file in MP3 format named according to the instructions in the packet.

  3. Upload files to a single folder in a cloud provider of your choice (Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.). Create a PUBLICLY VIEWABLE link to the folder and add the link to the body of an email. Do not include videos or identifying information in the recordings or folder.

  4. Attach a recent resumé in PDF format with your current physical address, phone, and email address to the email with the link to your recording folder – send to: usarmyfieldbandauditions@army.mil.

  1. Download and prepare Preliminary Round Excerpts. Disregard the recording instructions.

  2. No later than January 5, 2025, send a recent PDF resumé with your physical address, phone, email, and two references to usarmyfieldbandauditions@army.mil.

  3. The live preliminary round will take place at Fort Meade, MD on January 28, 2025. All travel, lodging, and meals will be at applicant expense.

Select applicants will be invited to Fort Meade, MD, for an in-person audition and interview on January 29, 2025. Invited applicants from the recorded preliminary round who complete enlistment qualification before January 29, 2024, are eligible for payment of audition travel expenses by the U.S. Army. Military personnel must be eligible for a PCS, submit an Intent to Release memorandum from the unit Commander, and submit a Soldier Talent Profile (STP) or equivalent.
