This audition will be jointly held with San Francisco Ballet, where candidates can also be considered for a horn position with the SF Ballet.

The SF Opera and SF Ballet will conduct the preliminary and semi-final rounds together, with each orchestra’s audition committee deliberating independently. Final round(s) shall be held separately, with vacancies filled solely on the basis of each orchestra’s individual deliberation process. The CBAs of both orchestras allow for candidates to simultaneously hold positions in both orchestras. Should a candidate win positions in both orchestras, the sum of the respective annual salary guarantees will apply.
*SF Opera Orchestra 2023/24 salaries for tenured Musicians. Compensation rates for 2024/25 are pending negotiations and are subject to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the American Federation of Musicians.
